7 Ways To Cozy Up Your Home Like The Amish

7 Ways To Cozy Up Your Home Like The Amish

May 4, 2018 by summer

You might not want to be Amish, but you certainly want your home to look and feel as cozy as Amish home. There is no big challenge in making your cozy and warming. The Amish lifestyle incorporates some simple things that make their homes have the coziest of ambiance. You can create that atmosphere in your home too… Even if you are not Amish.

Here is how…

Dim Lighting

The Amish are not big on bright lighting. They use lanterns, lamps, and candles. Some modern Amish use gas-powered wall-mounted and ceiling lighting. But they still use way less bright lights in their homes than English folks do. Embrace dim lighting in your home at nights. The dim lighting affects your mood and creates a tranquil ambiance.

Plants

In an Amish home, you are almost sure to find some houseplants. Plants make a room feel alive and warming. You don’t have to fill your entire home with plants, but do make sure to have at least one in your home. Seeing a plant flourish in your home, or cuddling up near one gives such a warming feeling.

Books

Set up a bookshelf somewhere in your home. It will instantly start making your home look inviting. The Amish do not watch television, so they spend a lot of time reading books. Your book collection does not need to be huge. Display books that you truly enjoy. You can even just display them on a table.

Throws, Blankets, and Quilts

Use up your blankets for decor. Amish folks love quilts and blankets. Keep a basket of pretty throws and blankets in your bedroom or living room. And display your quilts as wall art.

Rustic Textures

Add a rustic touch to the home. Use wood furniture, straw baskets and wooden boxes in your home. Most Amish homes have a rustic touch. These rustic textures bring warmth to any home.

Fresh Flowers

Pick fresh flowers from your garden and put in vases in your home. Amish women usually have beautiful gardens from which they create bouquets for their homes. Flowers add that touch of color and life that will make any room in your home glow.

Flicker Of Flame

If you can or so desire, install wood or coal-burning stove in your home. The warm and glow from a burning a fire can be very soothing to the soul. Most Old Order Amish use a wood/coal burning stove for cooking and warming their home. If you have a regular fireplace, that will work the charm too. Cuddle at your fireplace and make use of it when the climate allows. A little flicker of flame creates a magical ambiance.

These tips and ideas are simple and used by many folks everyday. The Amish are good with turning any house into a cozy home, and these are some very simple ways they create such wonderful ambiance.
