The Amish are known for making their own products. They like making things from scratch. And that includes cleaning agents they use in and around their homes. Their products are mostly green, non- toxic and friend for the environment. But they do use their fare share of ammonia, lard etc. Here is a handy list of cleaning agents these folks use to get and keep their homes clean.
Lemon juice can be used to remove stains from counters and food containers. The fresh fruit is also good for sanitizing your wooden cutting boards and for freshening up things around your home by removing bad odours.
Baking soda is good for getting rid of bacteria. It also absorbs unpleasant odours and is great for getting rid of grease. Clean your greasy stove top and dishes with baking soda. It is a good cleaning agent for your cabinets too.
Both white and apple cider vinegar is good for helping with getting things clean around your home. White vinegar helps with making your white clothes white. And apple cider vinegar is great for window cleaning. Vinegar is a good degreaser and can help to get rid of grime too.
Hydrogen Peroxide can be used as an all purpose cleaner. Use it to disinfect counter tops and use it to whiten your clothes too.
Essential oils make great air fresheners. Mix your favourite oils with water and spritz your curtains. That will make your home smell wonderful. Also, when using vinegar to clean your home, you will notice that vinegar does not have a pleasant scent. So combine essential oils with vinegar when cleaning, and you won’t have that unpleasant vinegar scent to deal with.
