Not all Amish are the same in every aspect of aspect of Amish lifestyle. But they all do have a common goal of living a simple life and being as frugal as possible. With this in mind, most Amish do not spend money, if any at all on certain things. While this is not so for all, it is for most. Especially for Old Order Amish folks. Listed below are some things the Amish save money on by not either making for themselves or not using at all.
Household items like bar soaps are a common thing for Old Order Amish families to make for themselves. This can save them some money over time. While it may be time consuming to make your own soap, you can be smart with your time like the Amish, and make a generous amount in one batch, which will last for a couple of months.
Most Amish families refuse health insurance. They do not have to commit to that monthly bill. And if they ever need more health resources than they can afford, the Amish community will do it’s part in making sure their members are properly taken care of. Health insurance isn’t a bad thing, but the Amish do have their own money saving way of taking care of health expenses.
Amish families might spend money on clothing pieces like men’s shirts. But they do not buy these items frequently. Women’s clothing are normally handmade and homemade. So much of their budget doesn’t go to keeping up with fashion trends or buying variety.
