Amish Kitchen Tips And Tricks That Are Actually Useful

Amish Kitchen Tips And Tricks That Are Actually Useful

March 7, 2018 by summer

A warm, welcoming kitchen, delicious homemade food, gathering for meals at the table, pies and warm soups… All lovely things the Amish are known for. The kitchen is the heart of their homes. And they have some of the best tricks. So today we are sharing some Amish kitchen tips that will help you with things in your own kitchen.

Make It Simple

Don’t get things complicated with unnecessary ingredients. Simple recipes with a handful of ingredients make it easier to get good results.

Soften Rock Solid Brown Sugar

Break up rock-solid brown sugar by placing in a bag with a piece of bread or apple. Let stay for a while until sugar is soft again.

Timely Canning

Canning is an important part of Amish lifestyle. But it can be overwhelming to get it all done on time. Don’t wait on all the crops to be ready to start canning. Start your canning when the first crop is ready. And continue along as each crop comes in. By winter, you will be all done and ready to enjoy your canned goodies through out the year. Or even for years to come.

Make The Perfect Bread

To make your homemade bread golden and soft with a crispy crunch, brush your dough with melted butter before baking.

Extend The Lives Of Cookies And Treats

To keep your cookies and treats fresh without refrigerating, keep in an air-tight container with a slice of bread.

Make More Than You Need

Be a prepared cook and make more than the amount you expect to be consumed. Someone might just ask for seconds. Or you might end up with an extra mouth to feed. If this happens, you don’t want to be placed in a sticky position to be preparing more food while others are at the table enjoying their meal.

Celebrate In The Kitchen

The kitchen in an Amish home is usually the main gathering place. So make it warm and welcoming and celebrate special life events with food.

Learn From The Best

Amish young women are usually taught the art of canning, cooking and baking by their mothers, older family members and even friends. If you want to become a master at your kitchen endeavours, seek advice from those who have already mastered what you are trying to learn. Visit friends or family members, and watch them canning. Help with the process too. The best way to become good at canning, cooking or baking is to learn hands on from the masters. Consider these experiences your free kitchen classes.

The Amish are some very smart and simple living people. I visit my niece often in Joppa Md. and they have a Amish store and I tell you what everything I buy is so fresh tasting and delicious. I’m just learning to can and I would love to have details on canning. Thank you so much for all the great thing you publish about the lifestyle of the Amish people.
